Little Explorers
Ages 12 months-23 months
Little Explorers is a yearlong “caregiver and me” program designed to provide a comfortable environment for our youngest students to acclimate to a social setting outside of their home. This time allows for introduction into peer interactions/relationships and self-regulation habits from home to school. This program aims to ensure a smooth transition into the Greenhouse program and our Co-Op community. During Little Explorers you can expect to find developmentally appropriate activities that include process art, sensory exploration, gross and fine motor work, cause and effect and problem solving. Most importantly, children and their families are invited to explore and play at their own pace!
Little Explorers is held on our play yard on Fridays from 9:00am-10:30am and is led by our wonderful Ms. Harriet.
Play
The best foundation for all learning is play. We provide a welcoming space for you and your child to get messy, explore, and connect in a playful, engaging environment. Through purposeful activities and new experiences, we support early development in sensory exploration, motor skills, social connections, and early communication—all while fostering curiosity and joy in learning.
Peer Interaction
Solitary and spectator play are the precursors to parallel play that we see emerge around 2 years old. Introducing social communities early on gives children an opportunity to form secure and trustful bonds with others and helps to develop social-emotional skills.
Community Building
Friendships and connections that go beyond the classroom. Small cohorts allow parents and teachers to be intentional and thoughtful in our interactions, fostering a strong sense of community. Caregivers also have the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with others in a similar season of parenting, creating a supportive network that extends beyond the classroom.
Motor Skill Development
All those cute activities and messy moments serve a purpose! Tactile play develops gross and fine motor skills that later support writing, speaking, tying shoes, riding bikes, self-help skills, and so much more!
Play & Community
Play is at the core of our identity. We believe children learn by exploring the world around them and having fun (& have we mentioned getting messy,) while doing it. At OCNS we provide a safe and enriching space for our youngest friends to play and do what they do best- engage in curious adventures. The fundamentals of all learning begin with a child who is given the opportunity to navigate their interests at an early age, at their own pace. Additionally, we are a place where families find community. We value the contributions and presence of every member of our community and seek to create bonds with a child and family that go far beyond the preschool years. This is #TheOCNSway.
